Richard Brinsley Butler Sheridan was a prominent figure in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, known for his contributions to literature, politics, and theater. Born in 1751, Sheridan's talent as a playwright became evident with the success of his comedic opera "The Duenna" and his play "Little Isaac, " both premiered on April 1st, 1784. Throughout his career, Sheridan collaborated with various artists such as William Paulet Carey and Charles Williams who depicted him in their artworks. One notable political cartoon titled "Clearing Away the Rubbish" from 1811 by Charles Williams portrays Sheridan alongside other influential figures of the time. Another artwork called "The Ex-Minister and the Meteor, " published on April 13th, 1804 also features Sheridan prominently. Sheridan's theatrical achievements continued with plays like "The Honeymoon" in 1806 and "Pillars of the Constitution" in February 1809. These works showcased his wit and ability to satirize societal norms through comedy. His involvement in politics is highlighted by Thomas Rowlandson's illustrations such as "Suitable Restrictions" from January 28th, 1789 which depicts him engaging with political debates. Similarly, Rowlandson's caricature titled "A Sweating for Opposition by Dr. W-llis Dominisweaty & Co. " humorously captures Sheridan's role within opposition parties during that period. In addition to these depictions of his public life, there are also artistic representations showcasing lighter moments such as James Gillray's illustration titled "Uncorking Old Sherry" from March10th, 1805 where he is portrayed enjoying himself at a social gathering.
