"Fancy Meeting You, you little rascal. " exclaimed George Ranstead in his television programme, starring actors Robin Nedwell and Richard O. This caption perfectly captures the mischievous nature of our subject. In the engraving "Fare Thee Well" from 1816, we see a sly grin on the face of Alfred Jingle Esquire, a true rascal from Charles Dickens' Pickwick Papers. His cunning ways are beautifully depicted in this artwork. Anticipation fills the air as a man feels threatened by a mischievous rascal in a Christmas card chromolitho. What could this troublemaker have up their sleeve? The aftermath of a bombardment is captured in vivid color litho, where two marauders seek revenge against an unsuspecting officer. These daring individuals prove that even villains can be considered rascals. Lord Charles Beresford is portrayed as a colorful character in another lively litho. With his flamboyant attire and playful demeanor, he embodies the essence of being a rascal. Le Rire's illustration showcases yet another example of mischief with its vibrant color litho. This misbehaving figure adds an element of humor to any situation they find themselves in. A cover from Monellucci e Monellacci by A. Piccioni depicts two troublemakers causing chaos wherever they go - true embodiments of rascals at heart. "The Trials of an Artist in Tangier" litho captures the struggles faced by creative souls amidst all sorts of distractions and temptations found within this exotic city. Even artists can't resist embracing their inner rascals. Lastly, we witness newlyweds embarking on "A Honeymoon on a Tricycle. " As they navigate through life together on this unconventional vehicle, one cannot help but imagine the adventures these lovebirds will encounter along their journey as delightful little rascals.
