Pyrotechnics is the science of using materials capable of undergoing self-contained and self-sustained exothermic chemical reactions for the production of heat, light, gas, smoke and/or sound. Pyrotechnic devices are used in a variety of applications including fireworks displays, special effects in film and theatre productions, safety systems such as airbags and emergency flares and are be used to create spectacular visual effects such as sparks or flames. The science behind pyrotechnics involves a combination of chemistry and physics. The chemicals used in pyrotechnic compositions must be carefully chosen to ensure that they react with each other safely when ignited. The rate at which these reactions occur is controlled by adjusting the size and shape of the particles within the composition as well as their surface area. In addition to this, other factors such as temperature, pressure and humidity must also be taken into consideration when designing a pyrotechnic device. Pyrotechnics has been around since ancient times but has become increasingly popular over recent years due to its ability to create stunning visual displays that captivate audiences all over the world, and is an exciting field that continues to evolve with new technologies being developed every day allowing for even more impressive shows than ever before.
