Cato Street Conspiracy arrests

Cato Street Conspiracy arrests, historical artwork. This group, which included a police spy, had been plotting to assassinate the British Prime Minister Lord Liverpool, and his cabinet. They were arrested at their Cato Street meeting place, near Edgware Road, London, on 23 February 1820. There was a struggle during which a policeman was killed. After a trial and convictions of treason, five of the conspirators were executed on 1 May 1820. Artwork from An Authentic History of the Cato-Street Conspiracy (Wilkinson, 1820).
