In present times too, authorities seize batches upon batches of elephant tusks confiscated from traffickers who profit off these magnificent animals' demise. But it is not only land-dwelling creatures who suffer at the hands of greed; marine life also falls victim to relentless exploitation. In Yan Dargent's engravings depicting shark fishing scenes, we see men posing triumphantly atop failed attempts at dominance over nature's apex predators.
