Nicolas Pieneman: A Dutch Master of Historical and Portrait Painting Nicolas Pieneman (1809-1860) was a prominent Dutch painter, renowned for his mastery of historical and portrait painting. His works offer a glimpse into the past, capturing significant moments in Dutch and European history. Pieneman's career began during the Belgian Revolution, with his painting "The Arrest of Diepo Negoro by Lieutenant-General Baron De Ko" reflecting the tumultuous times. In the 1840s, Pieneman painted a portrait of Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna of Russia (1795-1865), who became Queen of the Netherlands in 1840.
