Owlerton, a historic area in north Sheffield, holds a rich tapestry of stories and events that have shaped its landscape over the years. In 1940, during World War II, Owlerton found itself at the center of attention as an Ordnance Survey map copied by the Germans marked it with bombing targets. The scars of war were visible as North Sheffield was also designated as a potential target for destruction. But Owlerton is not just defined by its wartime history; it has been home to various significant landmarks and events. The Scout Pageant held at Owlerton FC brought together young scouts from all corners of Sheffield, showcasing their skills and camaraderie. The streets of Nether Hallam are etched into the memory of those who have wandered through them. A street map serves as a guide to navigate this charming neighborhood filled with hidden gems waiting to be discovered. In 1929, The Sheffield Gas Company meticulously planned lands at Neepsend within Owlerton's boundaries. This strategic move aimed to provide efficient gas services while ensuring sustainable development for future generations. Delving further back in time reveals Lady Burgoynes' land in Owlerton during 1825. White House, High House, Hill Foot, Limerick Wheel - these names evoke images of grandeur and heritage that once adorned this area. The estate plan from the same year showcases how Owlerton Hall stood proudly amidst picturesque surroundings. Its architectural beauty must have captivated all who laid eyes upon it. Fast forward to 1857 when freehold estates in the hamlets and Wadsley were put up for auction. This event symbolized growth and progress as new opportunities arose for individuals seeking ownership or investment within this thriving community. However, not all moments in history bring joyous memories; tragedy struck in 1864 when the devastating Sheffield Flood wreaked havoc on Owlerton Green/Bradfield Road area leaving ruins behind.
