Pergamon, Turkey - The Basillica
Pergamon, Turkey - The Basillica - one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor. The site of the ancient Greek city of Pergamon, situated today in Misia in northwestern Anatolia, sixteen miles from the Aegean Sea. Once nearly invaded by the Celts. The first Bishop of Pergamon, Antipas was believed to have been martyred here in 92AD. The great altar of Pergamon is in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin - it was this altar (believed dedicated to Zeus) that John of Patmos referred to as Satan's Throne in his Book of Revelation (Revelation II:12-13). Many notable structures still survive on the upper part of the Acropolis. Housed a famous ancient Library. Famous for parchment production. Epigonus the 3rd century Greek Sculptor came from here

Sea sticklebacks
Sea sticklebacks (Spinachia spinachia) building a nest, coloured historical artwork. Sea sticklebacks, otherwise known as 15-spined sticklebacks, can be found in weedy, shallow coastal seas off north-western Europe. They live singly or in pairs and feed on small invertebrates. Here, the male can be seen building a nest from young seaweed, in which the female will lay her eggs. Little by little the seaweed will cover her eggs as it grows, thus keeping the eggs secure until they hatch. This is important as the female will die shortly after laying her eggs there
