The National Portrait Gallery is a treasure trove of history, capturing the essence of individuals who have left an indelible mark on society. One such figure is Benjamin Lay, depicted in a portrait from 1750-1758 by William Williams. Lay's fierce abolitionist stance and activism against slavery reverberated through the ages. Sir Henry Irving follows suit with his captivating portrayal captured by an artist in 1880; Irving revolutionized British theater during his time. Henry Clinton's commanding presence emanates from a canvas painted in 1848; he served as a prominent general during the American Revolutionary War.
