Muriel is a young woman who has been struggling with her self-esteem and confidence for most of her life. She is a shy, introverted person who feels like she doesn't fit in with the rest of society. Despite this, Muriel finds solace in the small coastal town of Porpoise Spit, Australia where she meets Rhonda and Toni, two other outcasts who become her best friends. With their help, Muriel begins to come out of her shell and discovers that she can be herself without worrying about what others think. Through their friendship and support, Muriel learns to accept herself for who she is and finds the courage to stand up for what she believes in. In the end, Muriel realizes that it's not about fitting in but rather being true to yourself that matters most.
