In support of a strike by coal miners over the issue of threatened wage cuts, the Trades Union Congress called a General Strike in early May 1926. Orleans, France - The 500th Anniversary - Joan of Arc
Orleans, France - The President of France (Joseph Athanase Gaston) Paul Doumer (1857-1932) and his principal Ministers lead a parade to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of Jeane D'Arc hearing the voices which led her on her path to iconic status. In 1426, when the 100 years war was in its 90th year, French farm girl Joan began hearing the voices of three saints, instructing her to lead the French forces. Having made an uncannily prophesy, Joan was granted an audience with the Dauphin, Charles. To test her, he disguised himself, but she instantly picked him out. This was accepted as proof of her divine inspiration, and, in spite of her age and gender, she was put at the head of the French army. Date: 1926
