The military truck has a long and storied history, dating back to ancient times. Leonardo da Vinci, renowned artist and inventor, studied various forms of military transportation in his pen drawings. In one study preserved at the British Museum in London, he examined storming wagons equipped with scythes, covered wagons, and even a halberd. Another drawing at the Royal Library of Windsor showcased two storming wagons, a cross bower with a shield, and a knight with lances. But it wasn't just Leonardo who was fascinated by military vehicles. The Malatesta Temple in Rimini featured an impressive bas relief of Mars, representing the planet's allegory. This work by Agostino di Duccio captured the essence of warfare through artistry. Matteo de'Pasti also contributed to this theme with his own creation for the Sacrament Chapel or Chapel of the Planets. Even ancient civilizations recognized the importance of military trucks. A mosaic depicting the Battle of Isso from Pompeii's House of the Faun can be found at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. This artwork showcases how these powerful machines played a crucial role on ancient battlefields. Returning to Leonardo's studies for war machines, another drawing on yellowed paper displayed a scythed chariot alongside an armored car and machine armed with a halberd - all potential tools for conquest. Moving forward through time brings us to Etruscan artifacts that depict scenes involving military trucks. The Gregorian Etruscan Museum in Vatican City houses several black-figured Attic amphorae showcasing different aspects of warfare. One amphora depicts Eos assisting her son Memnon while another features Bacchus decorating a red-figured Apulian amphora on his carriage. The rim detail from yet another Attic amphora displays combat scenes while girls gather around a fountain nearby - highlighting both peace and war.
