March Field, a historic site in Paris, has witnessed numerous significant events throughout history. One such event was the grand opening of an exhibition on 14 April 1900. The Champs de Mars came alive with excitement as the presidential procession made its way across this iconic field. Amongst the dignitaries present were Millerand, Minister of Commerce; Bouvard, Director of Architecture; Crozier, Head of Protocol; and Emile Loubet. The Champs-de-Mars holds a special place in French history as it hosted several momentous occasions. On 14 July 1790, during the celebration of the First National Federation, King Louis XVI stood at the Altar of the Fatherland to commemorate the first anniversary of capturing Bastille. Little did he know that this event would eventually lead to his tragic demise amidst revolutionary and anti-revolutionary movements. Over time, this vast expanse has been witness to various festivities and gatherings. The Feast of the National Guard on May 22nd, 1831 brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate their unity and strength at Champ de Mars. One notable event held here was "Fete de l'Etre Supreme" on June 8th, 1794 when thousands gathered to honor their belief in a higher power during turbulent times marked by the French Revolution. The significance extends beyond celebrations alone. In preparation for the renowned World Exhibition in 1889, plans were made for modifications including a bonus project proposed in 1886 that aimed to enhance its appeal further. Moreover, March Field played a crucial role in advancing technology as it became an experimental ground for aerostatic experiences involving balloons—an endeavor that showcased France's pioneering spirit. From different vantage points around Paris like Hotel des Invalides or other side views captured through lenses over time have immortalized stunning panoramas featuring both Champ de Mars and Hotel des Invalides—a testament to the timeless allure of this iconic location.
