Linaria, commonly known as toadflax, is a diverse and vibrant genus of flowering plants. One species, Linaria vulgaris or Common toadflax, displays beautiful orange nectar guides on its lower lip and boasts a long spur. Found in South Croydon, Surrey, England, the Purple toadflax (Linaria purpurea) thrives on the verge of footpaths, adding a splash of color to the landscape. In Surrey's Park Downs, the Pale toadflax (Linaria repens) can be spotted. This rare plant is a true gem in this region. It attracts pollinators like the Garden bumblebee (Bombus hortorum), which can often be seen visiting the Purple toadflax in Monmouthshire. Another member of this genus is the Yellow flowered snapdragon called Antirrhinum linaria. Its bright yellow blooms are eye-catching and add cheerfulness wherever they grow. Traveling all the way to Abruzzo, Italy in June reveals fields bursting into bloom with various species including Corn chamomile (Anthemis arvensis), Hoarry mullein (Verbascum pulverulentum), Purple toadflax (Linaria purpurea), and Common poppy (Papaver rhoeas). The sight is truly breathtaking. Continuing our journey through Italian fallow fields brings us encounters with Poppy (Papaver rhoeas), Woad (Isatis tinctoria), Corn chamomile (Anthemis arvensis), Olympian mullein (Verbascum longifolium) and more stunning Purple Toadflax (Linaria purpurea). The beauty doesn't stop there; we also have Yellow Toad-flax (Linaria vulgaris) showcasing its charm alongside Snapdragons (Linaria vulgaris). These flowers create an enchanting display, capturing the attention of passersby.
