Here, Layla visits Majnun as depicted in Amir Khusrau Dihlavi's masterpiece from 1520-25. Ink dances on paper with opaque watercolors and gold accents to bring their reunion alive. The pages of history turn further back to another rendition of "Layla Visiting Majnun in the Desert" found within a copy of Khamsa. This double-folio from Jami's Haftawrang showcases Laila and Majnun conversing beneath an ancient tree around 1730. Their tale transcends time and space; it finds its way into Nizami's Quintet too. In "Laila and Majnun at School, " we witness their innocent connection blossoming amidst knowledge-seeking souls. The delicate strokes of ink mixed with opaque watercolor transport us to that moment when love first sprouted between them. Detail by detail, brushstroke by brushstroke, artists throughout centuries have immortalized this epic romance on paper. From c. 1595 comes a captivating depiction titled "Majnun in the Wilderness. " Gold embellishments shimmer against vibrant colors as we witness Majnun's solitary existence amid nature’s embrace. But it is not just earthly realms that bear witness to their love; celestial beings also play a part.
