The Kivu Region in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a breathtaking paradise filled with diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes. In November, I had the privilege to witness the beauty of this tropical forest habitat in Kahuzi-Biega National Park. As I explored the park, my eyes were captivated by the lush greenery and towering trees that make up this enchanting ecosystem. The view of the tropical forest habitat was like stepping into a scene from a fairytale. One remarkable encounter was with the Montane Egg-eater Snake, an adult snake gracefully coiled on a branch. Its sleek black scales glistened under the sunlight, showcasing nature's incredible artistry. Amidst my journey, I stumbled upon an Olive Baboon sitting on a road, engrossed in its feeding session. Its majestic presence added to the charm of this extraordinary region. But it was witnessing an Eastern Lowland Gorilla named Chimanuka that truly left me awe-inspired. This magnificent silverback male fed in the forest undergrowth, reminding me of our close connection to these incredible creatures. Nature never ceases to amaze as I spotted a Flower Chafer fluttering through Kahuzi-Biega N. P. , displaying vibrant colors against its surroundings. It served as a reminder of how delicate and precious every living organism is within this fragile ecosystem. Mount Kahuzi emerged majestically from swamp and bamboo forests - its quiescent volcano adding drama to an already picturesque landscape. The view left me breathless; it felt like standing at nature's altar. In contrast to these serene scenes, there were glimpses into human life too. A child building houses on park borders showcased resilience amidst adversity – a testament to both cultural heritage and coexistence with nature. Nightfall brought another surprise - spotting a Potto climbing effortlessly on branches illuminated only by moonlight. These elusive creatures are rarely captured in photographs but serve as a reminder of the hidden wonders that lie within this region.
