Kimberley is a city in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, and is the capital of the province and is located near the confluence of two rivers, the Vaal and Orange Rivers, founded in 1871 as a diamond mining town, and it quickly grew to become one of South Africa's largest cities. Today, it is home to a diverse population that includes Afrikaans-speaking whites, English-speaking whites, Coloureds (mixed race), Indians, and black Africans. The city has many attractions including museums dedicated to its diamond mining history as well as several parks and monuments.
