Jean Carter is a renowned American singer and songwriter. She is best known for her soulful, blues-infused style of music, which has earned her numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1962, Jean began singing at an early age. She was heavily influenced by the gospel music she heard growing up in church and eventually developed a unique blend of soul, blues and jazz that has become her signature sound. After studying voice at the University of Georgia, Jean began performing professionally in the late 1980s. Her debut album “Soulful” was released in 1992 to critical acclaim and established her as one of the most promising new artists on the scene. Since then Jean has gone on to release several more albums including “The Best Is Yet To Come” (1995), “Live At The Blue Note” (1997) and “A Woman's Voice” (1999). In addition to being a talented vocalist she is also an accomplished songwriter having written or co-written many of her own songs as well as those for other artists such as Erykah Badu and Mary J Blige. Her work has been recognized with multiple Grammy nominations over the years including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “A Woman's Voice” (2000).
