A photographic portrait of actress Vivien Leigh 'surrealised' into the figure of Aurora, Goddess of Dawn. Angus McBean (1904-1990), began his career in the theatre making masks and designing sets. He took an interest in photography from an early age and from the early 1930s took it up as a profession after a stint as a window dresser in the department store, Liberty's. McBean's work was famous for being surreal and experimental, with work frequently featured in TheTatler and Bystander and The Sketch between the mid 1930s to the 1950s. Date: 6th April 1938

Emma Disley, 12, makes her way up rocky Snowdon on stilts to raise money for the International Welfare Fund for Animals campaign to stop the killing of baby seals off the Canadian coast. With her is her mother Sylvia, an Olympic bronze medal athlete in the 1950s, her father John Disley, world steeplechase record-holder in the 1950s, and her sister Kate, 9, who has a collecting box on a neck cord.
