DNA sequences. Computer composite of several autoradiograms of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequences, sometimes known as DNA fingerprints. The bands have been manipulated to different sizes for artistic effect and do not represent a serious scientific statement. A DNA sample can be taken from body fluids such as blood, and body tissues. The DNA is then fragmented with enzymes to form the banding pattern. The bands represent the positioning of the base pairs on the DNA molecule. This banding makes up the genetic code in the form of genes which is unique to every person

Transcription factors are proteins that bind to specific sequences of DNA and control the transcription (transfer) of genetic information from DNA to RNA (ribonucleic acid). SREBF1 is involved in the synthesis of sterols (such as cholesterol). It travels to the nucleus and activates transcription by binding to sterol regulatory element-1 (SRE1). The presence of sterols inhibits the formation of SREBF1 and the mature nuclear form is rapidly broken down, thereby reducing transcription
