Snap happy... professional photographer Peter Day, of Brighouse, left with pupils of Gilthwaite First School, Denby Dale, who are studying photography. Mr Day has been working with the children for 10 days, sponsored by Kirklees Council and Yorkshire Arts. He has taught pupils how to use conventional 35mm cameras and how to take pictures using alternative methods. Their black and white photographs have been developed and printed in a dark room converted from a toilet in the school using the £250 prize money they won in the Examiner's Junior Journalist competition two years ago. 23rd March 1990

Dressed for the occasion- stallholders at Slaithwaithe Elizabethan fair

Dressed for the occasion- stallholders at Slaithwaithe Elizabethan fair. The event was the first carnival to be held in Slaithwaithe for several years, but it is hoped it will now be an annual event. About 150 people joined the procession, which included horse drawn floats, and the Slaithwaithe Guisers giant, Nathandriel. Displays were given by Marsden Pride Morris Dancers and Kirkburton Rapier Dancers. Other attractions included a pillory, Elizabethan style games and stalls. About £100 was raised for Slaithwaithe Community Association, which organized the event. Stallholders representing charities kept their profits for their own funds. 5th July 1986
