Hadrosaurids, commonly known as duck-billed dinosaurs, are a group of herbivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. They were one of the most successful and diverse groups of dinosaurs, with over 40 species identified so far. Hadrosaurids were characterized by their distinctive duck-like bills and wide range of body sizes. The largest species could reach up to 30 feet in length and weigh up to 10 tons. Hadrosaurids had a unique feeding strategy which involved using their broad bills to sweep through vegetation like a rake or shovel, allowing them to consume large amounts of food quickly. They also had complex dental batteries which allowed them to grind tough plant material into smaller pieces before swallowing it. In addition, some species had crests on their heads which may have been used for display purposes or even as resonating chambers for vocalizations. Hadrosaurids lived in herds and were likely social animals that communicated with each other through vocalizations or physical displays such as head bobbing or tail wagging. Their remains have been found all over North America and Asia, indicating that they were highly successful animals that spread across vast areas during the Late Cretaceous period before eventually going extinct at the end of this era along with many other dinosaur groups due to climate change and competition from mammals for resources.
