Amidst the tumultuous waters of the North Sea, the Grand Fleet stood resolute, a symbol of Britain's maritime might. In the historic Battle of Jutland on May 31-June 1, 1916, Admiral Sir John Jellicoe's flagship, HMS Iron Duke, led the charge against Vice Admiral Sir David Beatty's forces. The fleets clashed in a fierce engagement, with HMS Tiperrary's gallant end at Jutland immortalized in the phrase "Fight the Last Gun: the Gallant end of H.M.S. Tiperrary at Jutland." The tremendous power of a great modern battle-ship was on full display as they "bit with all their teeth at once." The Kings Visit to the Grand Fleet in June 1917 bore witness to the grandeur of this naval force. Yet, the war was not over, and in 1919, the German High Seas Fleet met its end at Scapa Flow, Scotland, in a tragic scuttling that marked the final chapter of this epic naval saga. From the Book of Ships to These Tremendous Years, the legacy of the Grand Fleet lives on.
