Godefroy Durand was a French sculptor, born in 1831. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was influenced by the neoclassical style of sculpture. His works were mainly of religious subjects, such as the Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ and various saints. He also created a number of busts and monuments to commemorate important figures from French history. Durand's most famous work is his statue of Joan of Arc, which stands in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He also created several other statues for churches throughout France. Durand died in 1902 but his legacy lives on through his sculptures which can still be seen today throughout France and beyond.
