Gibbons are small, tailless primates found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, and are known for their loud and melodic calls, which can be heard up to a mile away. They have long arms and hands that they use to swing through the trees with incredible speed and agility. They live in family groups consisting of one adult male, one adult female, and their offspring. The adults form strong bonds with each other that last a lifetime and can omnivorous animals that feed on fruits, leaves, insects, eggs, small reptiles and birds. They also consume nectar from flowers when it is available. Gibbons spend most of their time in the trees but will come down to the ground occasionally to search for food or explore new areas. Unfortunately they can threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation as well as poaching for bushmeat or pet trade purposes. As a result they have become endangered species throughout much of their range with some populations being critically endangered due to low numbers or restricted ranges.
