The First Fleet: A Journey of Exploration and Discovery Step back in time to the year 1787, when a remarkable voyage began. The First Fleet, consisting of several ships including the Sirius and Supply, set sail from Rio Janeiro towards an unknown destination. As we flip through the pages of history, we catch glimpses of their incredible journey. Opposite page 36 reveals a captivating view from Rio Janeiro, looking towards the entrance where this grand adventure commenced. The yearning for exploration is palpable as we witness the fleet's departure into uncharted waters. On page 13, an intriguing sight awaits us - Needle Point ENE just three miles away with Hyaena accompanying them. It must have been a breathtaking scene to witness these vessels forging ahead together on their quest for new horizons. Turning to page 37 transports us to Villyanon, where Convent del Gloria stands tall against the backdrop of an aqueduct in Rio Janeiro. This snapshot captures both beauty and intrigue as it hints at encounters with foreign cultures along their path. As our journey continues on page 299, Jamess Valley in St Helena comes into focus. Painted around 1802 by an artist whose name remains unknown (w/c), this image offers a glimpse into life during that era - perhaps serving as a reminder of how far they had come since departing from England. Page 225 brings us closer to our final destination - Sydney in Port Jackson. Governor's House stands proudly amidst its surroundings in this painting created circa 1802 (w/c). It serves as evidence that after months at sea and countless challenges faced along the way, they finally found solace on Australian soil. A dramatic turn takes place on page 150 when ice islands appear before them while sailing off Cape Horn on December 14th, 1788 aboard the Sirius ship. These icy obstacles symbolize both danger and triumph over adversity; proof that nothing could deter their determination to explore new lands.
