Ninots Burn Fallas Festival Valencia
Ninots burn on the last night of the Fallas Festival in Valencia on March 19, 2014. Fallas are gigantic structures made of cardboard portraying current events and personalities in which individual figures or Ninots are placed. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, USA; (add.info.: The Panathenaia festival was held every four years in Athens to honour the goddess Athena. Special narrow necked amphorae filled with oil were given as prizes for athletics, music etc. This one bears two inscriptions: NIKODEMOS EPOIESEN (Nikodemos made it) and TON ATHENETHEN ATHLON ([Prize] of the Athenian Games). The decoration is attributed to the painter of the wedding procession - on the other side Nike is shown crowning the winner of a boxing match.
