Eudicotinae is a subgroup of flowering plants that includes more than 75% of all angiosperms, and is divided into two main groups: the monocots and the eudicots. The eudicots are further subdivided into four major groups: rosids, asterids, Caryophyllales, and Saxifragales. Eudicotinae is characterized by having two cotyledons in their seeds, as well as a number of other features such as net-veined leaves, flower parts in multiples of four or five, and an endosperm that develops from both the egg cell and the central cell. They also have a variety of reproductive strategies including pollination by insects or wind and seed dispersal by animals or water currents. Many species within this group are important food sources for humans such as grains (wheat), fruits (apples), vegetables (potatoes), nuts (walnuts) and legumes (beans). Additionally they provide many other benefits to humans such as timber for construction materials and medicines derived from plants like foxglove. An incredibly diverse group with many species that play vital roles in our lives today.
