It is said that the painting was commisssioned by the Bartolini Salimbeni family, but was coveted by Lorenzo de Medici, who forcibly appropriated it for his palace in Florence. British midget submarine attack by G. H. Davis
One of the Second World War's most daring exploits: the British midget submarine (XE3) attack which gained VCs for Lieutenant Ian Fraser RNR and Leading Seaman James Magennis. They succeeded in sinking the Japanese cruiser, Takao, in the Johore Strait, Singapore. Showing the submarine crew carrying through their daring task under continuous difficulties. Date: July 1945
