Derek Rumble: A Sidecar Racing Legend With a career spanning several decades, it has left an indelible mark on the world of sidecar racing. From his early days partnering with Mal Corfield in the 2005 Classic Lap to his memorable races alongside Ian Gemmell in the 1968 Sidecar TT, Rumble's talent and passion for speed were evident. In 1970, Rumble teamed up with J Graham for the thrilling 750 Sidecar TT, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and determination. The following year saw him join forces with Steve Lavender for another exhilarating race aboard the powerful Rumble Suzuki at the Sidecar TT. Racing alongside Ralph Knight in 1981, Rumble displayed his skill and fearlessness as they tackled challenging tracks during the Sidecar TT. In 1988, he partnered with Steven Wilson to conquer yet another demanding race astride a formidable Rumble Suzuki machine. Not one to rest on past achievements alone, Derek continued to push boundaries throughout his career. In 2004, he took part in a Classic Parade Lap alongside Peter Forderman riding a remarkable Rumble BSA bike – proving that age is no barrier when it comes to pursuing one's passion. Family ties also played a significant role in Derek's racing journey. In 1975, he shared an unforgettable experience with his son Derek Jr. , competing together at the prestigious 500 Sidecar TT aboard their trusty Rumble Suzuki outfit. Derek's legacy extends beyond partnerships; he was known for collaborating with various manufacturers such as Alex MacFadzean on a BSA bike during the intense competition of the 1966 Sidecar TT. He later reunited with Mal Corfield once again for an impressive performance during their second Classic Lap in 2005.
