Danjuro Ichikawa, also known as Ichikawa Ebizo (Danjuro V), was a renowned actor in the Edo period of Japan. He played various roles throughout his career, captivating audiences with his exceptional talent and versatility. One of his notable performances was as Mongaku Shonin Disguised as Yamagatsu in 1781-1801. In this role, he portrayed the character's transformation and inner struggles with great depth and intensity. The artwork by Hokusai beautifully captures Danjuro's portrayal, showcasing his commanding presence on stage. In 1802, Danjuro took on the role of Akushichibyoe Kagekiyo in the play "Hatsumonbi Yosooi Soga. " His performance mesmerized spectators with its emotional power and gripping storytelling.
