Crocodiles are large reptiles that live in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. They have long, powerful tails and thick, scaly skin that helps protect them from predators and can be found in rivers, lakes, swamps, and even some oceans, and are carnivorous animals that hunt for fish, birds, small mammals and other reptiles. Crocodiles have a unique set of teeth which they use to tear their prey apart before swallowing it whole. They also possess an impressive ability to remain submerged underwater for up to two hours at a time while hunting or resting. Despite their fearsome reputation as dangerous predators, crocodiles play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by controlling populations of smaller animals such as rodents and insects which can damage crops or spread disease if left unchecked.
