The Conservative Party, also known as the Tories, is a centre-right political party in the United Kingdom, and is currently the governing party of the UK and has been since 2010. The Conservative Party was founded in 1834 and has been one of the two major political parties in Britain ever since. The current leader of the party is Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The main goals of the it can to promote economic growth through free market policies, reduce taxes for individuals and businesses, increase public safety, protect traditional values such as marriage and family life, reduce bureaucracy and red tape for businesses, maintain strong defence capabilities and support a strong national identity and are committed to reducing immigration levels while protecting Britain's borders from illegal immigrants. In recent years they have taken steps to reduce government spending while still investing in public services such as healthcare and education. They have also sought to reform welfare benefits by introducing Universal Credit which replaces six existing benefits with one single payment system that encourages people into work rather than relying on state handouts.
