Papyrus of Ani (Book of the Dead) - The Judgement

(Above) -Twelve Gods seated in Order, as judges before a table of offerings. (Below) - The Psychostasia of Weighing of the Conscience of Ani. The Jackal-headed Anubis trying (in the balance) the heart of the deceased against the feather (symbolising the law). On the left, Ani and his wife cn be seen in a pose of devotion; on the right an Ibis-headed Thoth, the Scribe of the Gods, notes down the resultsof this trial, whilst behind, the monster Amemit, the Devourer, looms menacingly. On the left of the balance, Shai (Destiny) with two Goddesses Renenit and Meschenit behind, all under the soul of Ani (symbolisedby a human-headed hawk and the symbol of a cradle). Date: around 1550 BCE

Marconi radio equipment on a ship. The equipment includes headphones and a Morse code key (lower centre). The equipment is labelled (left-right): continuous wave transmitter; direction finder; receiver; spark transmitter (all on left wall); emergency transmitter (right wall). Marconi patented his radio equipment in 1896. His initial aim had been to allow communication with those at sea. He achieved the first trans-Atlantic radio signal in 1901. Photographed for The March of Commerce (1927), volume 4 of The Pageant of America: A Pictorial History of the United States, a 15-volume series that commemorated 150 years since the founding of the USA in 1776

SOS message from Titanic

A wireless message received by the Russian steamer Birma from the Titanic about five minutes after Titanic struck the iceberg that sank her. The Titanic is identified by her code letters MGY and the message uses both old distress call letters CQD (Come Quickly Danger) and new, SOS. It reads, "CQD - SOS from M.G.Y. We have struck iceberg sinking fast come to our assistance. Position Lat 41, 46 N. Long 50, 14 W. - MGY." Date: 14th April 1912
