From Sada Yacco to La Belle Otero and Le Bargy, this iconic theater has witnessed the rise of many legendary actors and actresses. In 1863, a new foyer was unveiled at the Theatre Français, adorned with elegance and grandeur. A portrait of Mme. De R. , dressed in a cream crinoline dress with a purple mantle and bonnet embellished with a yellow ribbon, captured the essence of sophistication that permeated this prestigious establishment. Prosper Chabrol's masterpiece creation within this new foyer was an exquisite marble statue paying homage to Voltaire. This sculpture stood as a testament to the intellectual prowess celebrated by the Comédie-Française. Julia Bartet graced the stage during her time at the theater around 1890. In black and white photographs capturing her beauty and grace, she left an indelible mark on audiences who were captivated by her performances. Pierre Lafon also made his mark as Horace through engravings that showcased his talent for embodying complex characters on stage. His portrayal resonated deeply with spectators who marveled at his ability to bring stories to life. Françoise Marie Antoinette Saucerotte, better known as Melle Raucourt, became an engraving icon herself due to her exceptional acting skills. Her captivating presence on stage left audiences spellbound as they watched her effortlessly transform into various roles. Emile Augier's cartoon depicted him as a puppeteer in French comedy within "Les hommes d'aujourd'hui. " The drawing by Emile Cohl added humor while highlighting Augier's contribution to theatrical entertainment. A scene captured in black and white photography showcased moments filled with laughter and drama at the Comédie-Française. The audience's reactions mirrored the emotions evoked by the talented performers on stage.
