Inspired by the grandeur of Louis XIV, the Sun King of France, Charles found himself immersed in a brilliant court that dazzled his senses. But behind the opulence lay a deep sadness that permeated his being. On January 21, 1800, captured by Thomas Rowlandson's brushstrokes, we see Charles consumed by melancholy.
