In 1923, at The Paragon, Blackheath, a future Queen was preparing for her grandest role yet. Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, pictured with bridesmaids, was set to marry the Duke of York, who would later become King George VI, in Westminster Abbey. The historic event took place on April 26. Fast forward to South Hams, TQ9 6, where the Bowes-Lyon family resided at the Beckenham Cator Home. Unrelatedly, in the 1850s, American Benjamin F. Cator, of Bendann Brothers, captured the energy of Women in Sport, including tennis stars Betty Nuthall and M. H. A. Cator. As the royal wedding unfolded, HMS Intrepid braved the icy waters of Baffin Bay, a stark contrast to the joyous occasion in London.
