The casque helmet, also known as the great helm, was a type of medieval helmet that provided excellent protection for knights in battle. Made of steel and often featuring elaborate designs, these helmets were an essential part of a knight's armor. The casque helmet covered the entire head and had a visor that could be raised or lowered to protect the face during combat. Despite its heavy weight, the casque helmet was highly effective at deflecting blows from swords, axes, and other weapons. Knights would often decorate their casque helmets with symbols or colors to signify their allegiance or rank on the battlefield. These helmets were not only functional but also served as a symbol of status and honor among warriors. While the casque helmet eventually fell out of use as warfare evolved, its legacy lives on in modern depictions of knights in popular culture. The image of a knight clad in shining armor with a towering casque helmet is iconic and continues to inspire awe and admiration today.
