Carson is a city located in Los Angeles County, California, and is the youngest municipality in the South Bay region of Los Angeles and is known for its diverse population and vibrant culture. A population of approximately 91,000 people and covers an area of 19 square miles. The city was founded in 1968 by Robert F. Carson, who purchased land from the Dominguez family to create what would become the City of Carson. Carson is home to many attractions such as the Home Depot Center, which hosts professional soccer matches and other sporting events; California State University Dominguez Hills; StubHub Center (formerly Home Depot Center), which hosts concerts and other entertainment events; Victoria Park Golf Course; International Soccer Park; Veterans Park; SouthBay Pavilion Mall; and many more recreational facilities. The city also offers a variety of restaurants, shopping centers, schools, churches, parks and trails for residents to enjoy year-round. Carson's economy is largely based on retail trade with major employers including Walmart Supercenter, Target Corporation, Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Store Inc., Costco Wholesale Corporation and Walgreens Co. Other industries include manufacturing (aerospace parts), health care services (hospitals) as well as educational services (schools).
