Carried is a short story written by William Faulkner. It tells the story of Emily Grierson, an elderly woman living in a small town in Mississippi. She is seen as an eccentric figure by the townspeople, and her father's death has left her isolated and alone. One day, she refuses to give up her father's body for burial, instead carrying it around with her wherever she goes. The townsfolk are horrified but eventually come to accept Emily's strange behavior as part of who she is. In the end, they carry out his funeral procession themselves in a show of respect and understanding for Emily's grief-stricken state.
