Great white shark

Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). This is the largest of the predatory sharks, reaching a length of over 6 metres. It mainly eats seals, turtles and fish. It has a notorious reputation as an attacker of humans, but it does not feed on humans, and is thought to attack them by mistake in many cases. It lives throughout the warm seas of the world, and often follows ships into coastal waters. It can reach speeds of 40 kilometres per hour. Like other sharks, it is able to detect tiny traces of blood in the water and follow them to their source

Tawny owl, historical artwork

Tawny owl. Historical artwork of a tawny owl (Strix aluco). This is a nocturnal predator that inhabits forests and sparse woodland across much of Eurasia. It hunts at night, and finds its prey by sound. It feeds mainly on small mammals such as mice and voles, although it also takes smaller birds, frogs, fish and insects. By day it sleeps, camouflaged against branches or in a tree hole. It may reach a length of up to 40 centimetres. It has two calls: a harsh "ke-wick" and the "hoo-hoo" that is often but incorrectly assumed to be produced by all owls. This artwork was drawn by Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935)

Artwork of a spinosaurus dinosaur Featured Print

Artwork of a spinosaurus dinosaur

Spinosaurus (meaning spine lizard') was arguably the largest known meat-eating dinosaur. It was longer even than Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus at, according to one estimate, up to 18m in length. Named for the elongated spinal bones that make up the curious sail on its back, spinosaurus was probably a fish-eater. Its head was narrow like that of a crocodile and, like that animal, might have spent its life on land and in water. It lived towards the end of the Cretaceous period, in what is now northern Africa
