"Camp Lejeune: A Legacy of Strength and Camaraderie" Since its establishment in 1941, it has been a symbol of resilience and unity for the United States Marine Corps. This historic military base holds countless stories of bravery, dedication, and progress. In 1943, two trailblazing women Marines, Corporal Essie Lucas and Jean Ayers, shattered gender barriers as they proudly served their country. Their unwavering commitment paved the way for future generations of courageous women who continue to make their mark within the Marine Corps. Fast forward to January 28th, 2022 - Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro paid a visit to Camp Lejeune. During his time there, he immersed himself in various activities that showcased the strength and capabilities of our armed forces. From learning how to operate an M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle during a live-fire demonstration to observing Marathon targets with keen interest – Secretary Del Toro's presence highlighted his deep appreciation for our nation's defense systems. During his visit, Secretary Del Toro also took time to connect with individuals who play crucial roles at Camp Lejeune. He shook hands with Major Jeremie Croiset, a French Exchange Officer whose collaboration strengthens international ties between allied nations. Additionally, he engaged in insightful briefings by U. S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Francis L. , gaining valuable knowledge about ongoing operations at this vital military installation. Secretary Del Toro's interactions extended beyond formal settings as well; he greeted Marines from 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment with genuine warmth and respect. These moments exemplified the camaraderie shared among those who serve together on this hallowed ground. The secretary's curiosity led him towards innovative advancements too – such as being briefed on the R80D SkyRaider Unmanned Aerial System – showcasing his commitment towards staying informed about cutting-edge technologies that enhance national security efforts.
