Brian Houghton: A Thrilling Journey Through Time and Nature Step into the world of Brian Houghton, a man whose life has been filled with remarkable adventures and fascinating encounters. From his exhilarating races at the Southern 100 alongside Ken Hernicht in 1976, to his daring partnership with G Jacques on a Kawasaki bike in 1978, Houghton's passion for speed and adrenaline is undeniable. But there is more to Brian Houghton than just racing. His curiosity about the natural world led him to explore remote corners of our planet, encountering extraordinary creatures along the way. One such encounter was with Plecotus darjilingensis, also known as paskan; its skull and stomach revealing secrets of its unique diet. Intriguingly, Houghton crossed paths with Martes flavigula, commonly known as the yellow-throated marten. This elusive creature left an indelible mark on him as he witnessed its graceful movements through dense forests. Venturing further into nature's wonders, Brian encountered Moschus chrysogaster - the alpine musk deer - a majestic species that captivated him with its ethereal beauty. And then there was Gypaetos barbatus or lammergeier – an impressive bird soaring high above mountain peaks. Houghton's journey wasn't limited to wildlife alone; he delved into cultural exploration too. In 1847, he met both an A Limbu and a Gurung from Nepal - their stories painting vivid pictures of tradition and heritage. As if these experiences weren't enough to fill a lifetime, Brian had unforgettable encounters with Ailurus fulgens – the enchanting red panda – leaving him mesmerized by its playful nature. He even met an aged Hayu or Vayu from Nepal around 1840 who shared wisdom accumulated over six decades. Adding yet another dimension to his story, Houghton's watercolor collection showcased his artistic talents.
