"Bombards: Unleashing the Fury of Destruction Throughout History" From the primitive cannons used at the Battle of Crecy in France to the devastating U-Boat attacks during World War I, they have played a significant role in shaping history. These powerful weapons have left their mark on various battlefields and naval encounters, forever etching tales of destruction and resilience. In 1865, amidst the chaos of the American Civil War, an engraving captured the intense "Action of Gunboats at Memphis. " The deafening roar echoed across the waters as these vessels clashed fiercely. Similarly, another engraving depicted brave soldiers running rebel batteries at Vicksburg in 1863, facing imminent danger while carrying handheld bombards. Traveling back further in time to late 14th and early 15th centuries, foot soldiers and horseback riders were seen wielding these handheld bombards with precision. Whether defending their territories or launching strategic offensives, they harnessed this destructive force to gain an upper hand on their adversaries. The year was 1915 when U-Boats launched a relentless attack on Emden shells near Madras during World War I. This event marked a turning point in naval warfare as submarines utilized bombards to wreak havoc upon unsuspecting enemies. Meanwhile, Varna in Bulgaria witnessed its own bombardment on October 27th that same year - a stark reminder of how these weapons could ravage even distant lands. Not limited to land or sea battles alone, Captain Henry Mowatt's bombardment of Falmouth showcased how cities too could fall victim to this destructive power. In his quest for dominance over enemy forces during wartime conflicts throughout history Admiral Vernon also resorted to using bombards; one such instance being his assault on Cartagena circa 1741. Even beyond military confrontations, historical events like Japanese Fleet's bombardment of Vladivostok in 1904 demonstrated the far-reaching impact of these weapons.
