Japan - Watching volcanic disturbance at the Mount Aso volcano, Higo Province (an old province of Japan in the area that is today Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu). The largest active Volcano in Japan with a crater which continuously emits smoke and has occasional eruptions. Date: circa 1910s

Fire at supply depot, Limmer Wharf, Barking, Essex

Panoramic view of a fire which broke out at a Ministry of Supply depot, Limmer Wharf, Barking, Essex, on 27 October 1947. Seen here is the fire in its early stages. The burning stacks of baled rubber were dangerously close to the British Anti-Fouling Company building which contained many gallons of solvent naphtha, white spirit, paints, varnishes and other materials.
