The El Tule tree in Oaxaca state, Mexico holds the prestigious title of being the world's largest tree by circumference. Standing tall and proud, this magnificent giant is a sight to behold. Traveling across borders, we find ourselves in Texas at Caddo Lake State Park, where the Mill Pond showcases another impressive "big tree. " The lush greenery surrounding it creates a serene atmosphere that invites visitors to marvel at its grandeur. Venturing further west to Humboldt County, California, we encounter the towering redwood trees and stumps along the famous Redwood Highway. Captured through Dorothea Lange's lens in 1939, these images serve as a testament to nature's resilience and enduring beauty. Delving into history, Carleton Watkins' photograph titled "Galen Clark Before the Grizzly Giant" takes us back to 1863 when explorers marveled at ancient giants like never before. This snapshot captures a moment frozen in time when humans first encountered these colossal wonders. Moving forward in time but still within Yosemite National Park lies Mariposa Grove with its majestic Grizzly Giant. Dating back to 1861/76 and boasting an impressive diameter of 33 feet, this awe-inspiring specimen stands as a symbol of strength and longevity amidst nature's ever-changing landscape. Crossing over from America into Canada brings us to Stanley Park in Vancouver. Here we find "The Big Tree, " captured beautifully in black and white photography. Its branches reaching towards the sky create an ethereal silhouette against the backdrop of urban life. Returning southward once more brings us face-to-face with Coniferae - a vibrant color lithograph from 1899-1904 showcasing various species of big trees found throughout California. This artistic representation highlights their diversity while paying homage to their immense size. Continuing our exploration through photographs takes us deeper into Mariposa Grove where we encounter yet another captivating "big tree.
