Lady Beauchamp and the Lygon Sisters

Lady Beauchamp, formerly Lady Lettice Grosvenor, with her three eldest daughters, Lettice (born 1906), Sybil (born 1907) and Mary (the baby in her arms, born 1910). There would be one more daughter, Dorothy and together they were known as the 'Beauchamp Belles' prominent in society during the 1930s. The Lygon sisters befriended Evelyn Waugh and the family were the inspiration behind his novel, Brideshead Revisited. Date: 1910

WILLIAM LYGON, 7th Earl BEAUCHAMP (1872-1938), styled Viscount Elmley until 1891. British Liberal politician and Governor of New South Wales between 1899 and 1901. Resigned from office when political enemies threatened to make public his homosexuality. Supposedly the model for Lord Marchmain in Evelyn Waugh's novel, Brideshead Revisited. Cord III (Roger Bigod, Earl of Norfolk; Marshal of England). Roger Bigod (c1209-1270) was 4th Earl of Norfolk and Marshal of England. Guy de Beauchamp, 10th Earl of Warwick (c1272-1315) was an English magnate, and one of the principal opponents of King Edward II. From Some Feudal Lords and their Seals. MCCCJ.
