Welsh miners wives banner

Welsh miners wives hold up their banner on a demonstration during the national miners strike of 1984 - 85. The banner reads, 'Maesteg & Afan Valley Miners women support group' and also includes caricatures of Arthur Scargill (National Union of Mineworkers President), Margaret Thatcher (Prime Minister) and Ian McGregor (head of the National Coal Board), the latter being described as Thatcher's 'hatchet man'. Date: 27 June 1984

Women's Suffrage Millicent Fawcett

Photograph shows Millicent Garrett Fawcett ahead of a banner proclaiming 'Woman Citizens' Mrs. Fawcett, President of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, advocated the constitutional non-militant approach to gaining the vote. In March 1917, a 90 strong suffrage deputation to Lloyd George was received. In May the representation of the People Bill was passed without division, becoming law in 1918. Date: 1917 (?)
