Ardconnel Terrace, Oban, Argyllshire, Scotland showing the McCaig Tower. Situated on the west coast of Scotland and built of Bonawe granite between 1897 and 1902, it was commissioned by a wealthy Victorian banker, John Stuart McCaig, as a lasting monument to his family. It is a circular structure, reminiscent of the Colosseum in Rome. Date: 1910s

Current Governor Lord Cromer retires from the post this year and Mr. O'Brien, who joined the bank in 1927 and was chief cashier from 1955 to 1962 (his signature appeared on millions of bank notes) was appointed Deputy Governor in 1964, will become next Governor of the Bank of England.

Baroness Burdett Coutts. Angela Georgina Burdett-Coutts, Baroness Burdett-Coutts (21 April 1814 30 December 1906), born Angela Georgina Burdett, was a nineteenth-century philanthropist, the daughter of Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Baronet and the former Sophia Coutts, daughter of banker Thomas Coutts. In 1837 she became one of the wealthiest women in England when she inherited her grandfather's fortune of around 1.8 million pounds sterling. Part of Box 105 Boswell Collection. Date: circa 1900s
