The Asklepieion was an ancient Greek healing sanctuary dedicated to the god of medicine, Asclepius. It was located in Epidaurus, a small city-state in the Peloponnese region of Greece. The Asklepieion served as a place for people to seek medical treatment and spiritual healing from the gods. Patients would come to the sanctuary and make offerings to Asclepius before being treated by priests or doctors who used herbs, massage, and other treatments. The it also had a temple dedicated to Asclepius where patients could sleep overnight in hopes of receiving divine intervention from their dreams. The Asklepieion was one of the most important religious sites in ancient Greece and it remained active until late antiquity when it eventually fell into disuse due to changes in religious beliefs.
